Like dolphins, sea lions are excellent creatures to interact with due to their eagerness to meet and play with humans. Sea lions are also highly intelligent animals and will impress you with their abilities to perform tricks such as catching and balancing a ball on their noses. What the sea lions are most known for, however, is their playful and hilarious antics. Sea lions are mammals that live close to water and can spend up to 15 minutes underwater, but spend the majority of their time on land (albeit close to water, where they do the majority of their hunting). They are recognized for their long fore-flippers, their pointed muzzle with whiskers, and the way they walk on all fours. They can grow to be as large as 660 pounds and live up to 15 years out in the wild (though in marine facilities they tend to live significantly longer due to the absence of predators). They feed predominantly on squid and fish species such as salmon and anchovies. They are known for their almost comical way of walking and their distinctive vocalizations.
